10.2 Surround Sound. “Twice as good as 5.1″

This format was proposed by Tom Holman, creator of Lucasfilm’s standard THX. Those who are not-so-familiar with THX will be delighted to know that this is one of the most reputable set of standards for cinemas, home theaters, pro-studios etc (for more info visit THX website).

10.2 in fact uses 14 speakers to deliver an advanced 3d sound experience.

10.2 surround sound speakers position:

  • Front speakers: Left Wide, Left, Center, Right and Right Wide
  • Surround speakers: Left Surround Diffuse, Left Surround Direct, Back Surround, Right Surround Diffuse and Right Surround Direct
  • Subs (also serving as LFE speakers): LFE Left, LFE Right
  • Height speakers: Left Height, Right Height

Although 10.2 surround sound was introduced on 1996, currently there is only one movie, which uses it: Seven Swans.
